Reservation policy flouted
TURA: The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Apex Committee has raised questions over the recent appointment of candidates to various posts by the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS) where it alleged that terms and conditions laid down in the advertisement as well as the State Reservation Policy were not followed.
In a statement issued on Friday, the association claimed that as per the allotment of contractual posts by the MACS which was declared on September 16, candidates who did not fulfill the criteria as put out in the advertisement were appointed whereas not a single Garo candidate figured in the list, which amounts to violation of the State Reservation Policy of 40 per cent.
“The advertisement which came out on June 28 clearly mentioned that knowledge of local language is essential except for Medical Officer. However, we have come to know from reliable sources that candidates who were selected for various posts in Garo Hills are not familiar with the local language. In addition, there is not a single Garo candidate in the selected list which means that the reservation policy has been violated,” ADE President Dalseng Bira Ch Momin said, while denouncing the alleged discrimination and strongly condemning it.
Momin, while pointing out that the association was not against any caste or creed but ready to support anyone who fulfils the criteria, urged the department to review the already declared result and to give appointment by strictly following the criteria mentioned in the advertisement.
“We urge the concerned authorities to reconsider the matter very carefully and make necessary amendments to redress the same as soon as possible. If it fails to do so, we will be compelled to protest against the discrepancy and take steps against any candidate illegally appointed in Garo Hills,” Momin warned.
