SHILLONG: The five-day National Initiative for School Heads and Teachers Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA) training programme culminated in the city on Saturday.
The programme aimed towards improving the education system in the state by also taking into account methods of teaching in order to ensure that students are engaged in the learning process,
Speaking at the valedictory session, Education department secretary CP Gotmare said that it is very important for teachers to change their teaching habits and to learn new ways of imparting knowledge.
He added that teachers should analyse the knowledge they receive and apply it in the most effective way possible.
The director of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Hrushikesh Senapaty said that the aim of the training is to implement programmes at the grass root level in order to bring about an improvement in the quality of education.
He added that the community has to be involved when it comes to bringing about change in the education system. “Exams and results will not address the issue”, he said adding that students’ all round personality must be developed.
Meanwhile, Ranjana Arora from NCERT said that Meghalaya is the 21st state that launched NISHTHA and the 13th state to complete the training.
“With the training, the education department will attempt to transform schools through the training of teachers,” she said.
