MAWKYRWAT: Health Minister, AL Hek laid the foundation stone of a Health Sub-Centre and also inaugurated the 2-km PWD internal road at Rangmaw village, South West Khasi Hills on Tuesday, in the presence of local MLA and Chairman MIDC, Renikton L Tongkhar, Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo and other dignitaries even as members of KSU Mawkyrwat Circle greeted the health minister with banners and placards demanding the completion of the 100-bed hospital and appointment of full-fledged DM&HO at Mawkyrwat.
Speaking to media persons, general secretary of the KSU Mawkyrwat Circle, Rutherford Lyngdoh said that the KSU will wait for the government till the last week of November to appoint the DM&HO and if no action is taken, it will begin agitation.
Speaking at the function held at Modern Academy Higher Secondary School, Rangmaw, Hek directed the Health Engineering Wing to immediately start the work and complete the construction of the health centre by 6 months. He also said that the sub-centre will be inaugurated on May 2, 2020.
Speaking about the much awaited 100-bed Civil Hospital in Mawkyrwat, the health minister said that the the government is making all out attempts to make the hospital operational at the earliest. He also asked the people to enroll themselves under Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS).
Speaking about the closure of the District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO) at Mawkyrwat by the Khasi Students’ Union, Hek said that people should not take laws into their own hands. He reminded the DC and the SP that they should not allow individuals without legal authority to take steps that are not appropriate.
Tongkhar hailed the people of Rangmaw village for putting behind politics and differences during elections in order to bring development.
