NGO carries out 3rd phase of cleaning drive at Rynjah

SHILLONG: MakeSomeoneSMILE conducted its third consecutive cleaning drive on Saturday.
The targeted area was RR Colony- Rynjah where 20 members from the team and 10 members from Team JIVA executed the activity led by Derrick Pariat, Head of Programmes at Doordarshan Kendra Shillong and Anky, Founder MakeSomeoneSMILE.
The event had the participation of Alexander Laloo Hek, Health and Family Welfare Minister and Charles Pyngrope, former Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and Nongthymmai legislator.
Appreciating the overall initiative and spirit, Hek said to be able to clean localities and towns, people should work hard to clean their minds.
Pyngrope applauded the sustaining spirit of both the teams saying, “What you are doing must be an example for many more members to join and participate passionately towards the overall cause.”
Local headman also appreciated the initiative.
The team thanked Bhattacharjee (Teacher, St Edmunds School) and Mintu Deb who were the only two local persons joining the event, while Animesh Bhattacharjee also supported the cause.
Out of more than 100 kgs of wastes found, plastic materials, beer bottles, clothes, cups, alcohol bottles, chips packets, cold drink bottles and gutkha packets continue to dominate the majority pile from the collected waste.
