SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has ordered for maintaining status quo in the appointment of Babul Islam as assistant teacher in a school in West Garo Hills.
In a statement issued here, Islam said that the Director Higher and Technical Education, vide circular dated 19.4.2002 had directed ten schools to accommodate the additional non-sanctioned staff against the vacancies arising out of retirement of the sanctioned staff.
Accordingly, the management of the Bhaitbari Deficit Higher Secondary School, on the retirement of Nurul Islam Sk, the laboratory assistant,
appointed Monawar Hussain, who was holding a non-sanctioned post, against the vacant post and accordingly his appointment was approved by the Education Department in 2015.
Islam said that in 2018 Hassain Ali Sarkar, the assistant teacher of the school, retired and accordingly he was appointed in his place and the management of the school requested the District School Education Officer to approve the appointment.
The management wrote to the Director of School Education and Literacy and requested him to approve the appointment of Islam who had served for 18 years.
However, suddenly, the District School Education Officer asked the school to advertise the post in clear violation of the circular.
Hence he was compelled to approach the High Court for relief, Islam said.
