NONGPOH: The District Administration of Ri Bhoi conducted an inspection at Umlaper, a border village with neighbouring Assam, on Thursday after getting information that the Assam Government had opened a new border market in the area.
According to sources, officials of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous District Council (KAAC) along with others had inaugurated the border market in the disputed area of Umlaper village on Wednesday.
Taking serious note of the incident, the District Administration officials led by FM Lakiang along with VDS Rymbai, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ri Bhoi, Pherbak Marwei, Circle Inspector, Nongpoh Police Station and others visited the new border market on Thursday.
Interestingly, during the visit of these officials, it was found that the market was running peacefully and that there had been no law and order problem in the area between the people of two neighbouring states following which they returned back. A report will be submitted to the state government on the matter.
