NGO against reservation, IT exemption

SHILLONG: Michael Syiem, Convenor of Maitshaphrang Movement, on Tuesday, said that it will be a historical moment when the indigenous people reject reservation and set their minds to competing with others on the basis of merit.
Michael is of the view that in the near future, the poeple will reach a certain point where they will have to pay Income Tax. He said the indigenous community needs to revive its fighting spirit. “One of the historic moments of the Hynniewtrep people will be when we declare that we do not want reservation. We will compete and contribute with the rest of the world on an equal footing and scholarship will be based on merit. This will strengthen our fighting spirit,” Michael said in a press conference while launching the website of Maitshaphrang Movement. “We have to introspect whether we still carry forward the values of knowing man and God (Tip briew tip Blei),” he added. Syiem informed the pressmen that the website, [email protected] highlights the ideology of the organisation.
