NONGPOH: Secretary of Nongpoh Town Committee (NTC), Rayonald Kharkamni has expressed gratefulness to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for sanctioning Rs 6.21 crore to carry out works for widening of the drainage system, construction of police traffic booth and foot overbridge at Nongpoh and other stretches of National Highway-6 during a joint inspection of the national highway by members of the NTC and officials of highways authority.
It may be mentioned that Nongpoh town witnesses flash floods along NH-6 during rainy season since the inception of the four-lane project due to improper drainage system constructed by the NHAI.
Kharkamni has lamented the fact that the hawkers occupying the space along the drainage system create difficulty for the contractors to start the work as they do not cooperate with the authority.
Kharkamni, therefore, has urged the hawkers and shopkeepers to extend their cooperation with the NHAI for their own benefit as well as for the people at large.
He also informed that areas like the Pahamsyiem, Mawdiangum, Iewmawlong, Pahamsohthri & Pahamlapong villages on both sides of the NH-6 need immediate attention.
Further, Kharkamni also informed that the traffic police booth will be constructed in Nongpoh, Bethany Hospital junction, Alpha English Higher Secondary School, and urged the local MLA and MDC of Nongpoh to extend their helping hand for smooth implementation of these projects.
