TURA: Fresh from victory in the deputy chairman’s election, the opposition camp comprising of members from the Congress and the BJP along with Independents are moving for the formation of a new alliance called the Garo Hills Democratic Alliance (GHDA).
According to sources, the alliance will include as many as fifteen members who voted against the NPP in the election to the deputy chairman’s post and moves are being made to draw in more members from the NPP camp.
With the possibility of a new Executive Committee stitched up by the Congress looking more realistic than ever in the current GHADC term, the names of Congress MDCs Sadhiarani M Sangma and new deputy chairman Mettrison G Momin are doing the rounds as the frontrunners for the post of Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the council.
However, the alliance will first need to vote out the minority NPP alliance through a special session which can take place if either two thirds of the members demand for it or the governor issues an order to hold it.
