SHILLONG: Apprehensive over a proposed move to sell land to the Border Security Force (BSF), the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong Umtyrnga urged for the intervention of the state government and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
Addressing the press here on Monday, spokesperson of the Synjuk and executive member of Umtyrnga village, Marcus Lapasam said that most of the land sold to the BSF to set up a firing range which will cover 7413 acres is mostly agricultural land and it has been included in the draft drawings of the map without their knowledge.
A delegation of traditional heads and residents of villages under Raid Marwet has demanded that authorities concerned should cancel the land registration of Deilang Chirup Law covering an area of 12,000 acres asserting that 7413 acres of the land will be sold to BSF to set up a firing range.
Lapasam said that more than 13 villages will be affected and has urged the state government and the Council to look into the matter. He also said that there is a need for a joint inspection of the affected area by the state government, Council, Hima Mylliem and Raid Marwet to dig deep in to the matter.
