Shillong: The Meghalaya People’s Labour Union in a press statement informed that they have sent a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding ILP and proper amendment of the Sixth Schedule in the state.
A meeting was held on Thursday regarding the passage of the CAB and the union decided to press for ILP in the state.
The union wants the implementation of the Inner Line Permit in the state as well as to strengthen the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India in the proposed amendment pending in the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Home Affairs.
It added that amendments of the Sixth Schedule should now be done in the background of the CAB. It should be comprehensive and clear as per the recommendation of the Review Committee set up by the Government of Meghalaya. It should include the additional points to make the amendments in the interest of protecting the rights of the tribal people of Meghalaya, the statement said.
