Complaint against GHADC CEM for attending office
SHILLONG: The GHADC deputy chairman Mettrinson Momin has expressed concern over CEM Dipul Marak and others continuing in office. Momin said after the chairman failed to take up the no-confidence motion, a case was filed in the High Court of Meghalaya. According to Momin, the NPP-led Executive Committee is still functioning without any legal mandate. “As we are awaiting the verdict of High Court of Meghalaya, it is strange that the CEM is still continuing in office without any legal sanction,” Momin said.

BSF concludes Swachhta Pakhwada
SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF), Umpling, on Monday concluded the cleanliness drive that had commenced on December 1. The programme, Swachhta Pakhwada, was organised keeping in view the government’s vision of Swachh Bharat. During the campaign, the locals on the international border were made aware about the nationwide cleanliness drive. They were also educated on the importance of keeping the surrounding clean. The families of the BSF personnel also participated in the cleanliness drive. A tree plantation drive in the campuses and surrounding areas was also carried out by the BSF. Speaking on the occasion, BSF IG Kuldeep Saini highlighted the importance of promoting community awareness programmes among the locals and asked the troops to abstain themselves from the usage of single-use plastic. BSF PRO UK Nayal said that the cleanliness drive was appreciated by the locals, which was evident from their overwhelming response. He further said that the BSF will continue with its efforts towards a green and clean nation.

Cattle seized
SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) and the Meghalaya Police (MLP), in a joint operation carried out at Ramchinga village on Sunday, seized 23 cattle worth Rs 3,44,200 which were meant being smuggled to Bangladesh from Tura. The BSF PRO, in his statement, expressed his gratitude to the MLP, hoping that cattle smuggling will recede in the state if more such joint operations will be undertaken in future.

Blankets distributed to needy
SHILLONG: The West Jaintia Hills District Executive Force (DEF), in the spirit of Christmas, continued its welfare programme by distributing blankets to the around 100 poor and needy at Mookaiaw, West Jaintia Hills, on Monday. The DEF has also requested the residents of the district to maintain peace and tranquility, amidst the ongoing protests, during the holy season. The DEF, in a release, had also extended Christmas and New Year wishes.
