SHILLONG: The Sylvanade Secondary School in Nongrah organised a unique fashion show titled ‘Today’s garbage, tomorrow’s fashion’, in which students used waste materials for designing their costumes, during the school’s 14th annual prize distribution programme, here on December 6.
The fashion show, which was presented by the students of classes V and VI,
was elaborately planned, prepared and organised by two teachers of the school, namely, Ibadahun Lyndem and Lily Mawlong with
the help of their students. The display revealed the originality and innovative thoughts of the conceivers.
Items such as old newspapers, magazines, gunny bags, plastic sheets, plastic bubble wrap, garbage bags, old catalogues, chart paper, etc. were used for creating various costumes for the fashion show.
Justifying the title for the event, students came out with stunning designs ranging from casual and formal costumes to gorgeous wedding gown.
Observers appreciated and praised the display put up by the students of Sylvanade Secondary School.
On the day, one of the audiences, the mother of one of the students, who also happened to be the instructor at the NIIF said, “It is incredible that such discarded materials can be used to form things so beautiful and useful.
I congratulate the school for supporting such endeavour”.
