Organisations apprehend impostor

Mawkyrwat: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) in collaboration with the Synjuk ki Seng Samla Shnong (SSS), South West Khasi Hills District, on Saturday apprehended one person for allegedly swindling people out of their money from Mawkyrwat area by promising them jobs at NEIGRIHMS.
Assistant Education Secretary of the KSU, SWKH, Pulljohn Wanniang informed that the person was identified as Manfulson Syiemlieh of Sakwang village, SWKH, who had claimed that he works at the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health and Human Service Kamrup (Assam) as a senior incharge.
“He (Manfulson Syiemlieh) claimed that he has a close relationship with the top officials incharge of recruitment at NEIGRIHMS Hospital, Shillong,” Wanniang said, adding that the person also possessed the identity card of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Health and Human Service Kamrup (Assam) with his designation as a senior incharge.
Wanniang also informed that the person was apprehended by the members of the KSU and SSSS after he duped many people from Mawkyrwat area. He also said that so far, 10 people from the area have confirmed that they were duped by the person who also collected Rs15,000 each as registration fees.
“After apprehension, the person has returned all the money to the victims in which, the total amount was Rs1.37 lakh,” Wanniang said.
Wanniang also said that the Union wanted to send a strong warning to such people that it will not allow anyone to take advantage of the poor people and if found, stern action will be taken.
“The Union also wanted to urge upon the people to be cautious not to be mislead by such people,” Wanniang said.
Meanwhile, organising secretary of the SSSS, SWKH, Skhembor W Nongrum urged upon the local people to cooperate, come forward and report if they encounter with such people so that the law will take its own course and this kind of problems can be eradicated.
