M’laya Ranji & Cooch Behar teams suffer defeats

Shillong: Meghalaya’s Ranji Trophy and U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy teams were beaten by Chandigarh and Goa respectively on Saturday, while the U-23 side have an uphill battle still to go against Bihar.
In Mangaldai, Assam, Meghalaya resumed day three on 15/1 chasing Chandigarh’s mammoth 455/9 declared. Meghalaya lost their second wicket in the fourth over of the day and really struggled to built partnerships. Only the three guest-professionals Punit Bisht (84), Sanjay Yadav (21) and Ravi Teja (11) managed to get into double figures as Meghalaya were dismissed for 148. Still trailing by over 300 runs, Chandigarh enforced the follow-on and skittled Meghalaya for 118 to win by an innings and 189 runs.Bisht made another half-century, out for 54.
In Tezpur, Goa won by 10 wickets. The second day began with Goa on 126/5, 28 runs behind Meghalaya’s first innings score of 154. Goa were only able to put on another 76 runs for their remaining wickets, with Aryan Borah finishing with 5/44, Abhishek Kumar 3/31 and Sudhir Sahani 1/23.
This gave Goa a lead of only 48 runs, but they then turned in a fantastic bowling performance to uproot Meghalaya for just 53. That set Goa a target of six runs to win, which they accomplished in less than an over.
