SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) has slammed the Opposition Congress for the latter’s remark on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) gag on NPP members by its top leadership.
NPP state president WR Kharlukhi on Sunday said that NPP instructing its members on any issue is an internal matter of the party.
“We don’t need any advice from the Congress which is famous for feeding half-truth and vague information to the people,” said Kharlukhi.
He was reacting to the statement of Congress MLA Zenith Sangma who had stated that such directive implies that people’s right to express their opinions is being suppressed as there may be many leaders in the NPP who want to express their views on CAA.
Criticising Zenith, Kharlukhi said,” Our Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma is the son of late PA Sangma and Mrs SK Sangma and pure Garo blood runs through his vein and he does not need to listen to the likes of Zenith Sangma on how to take care and protect the people of our state”.
Shifting his attack on the president of Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress Richard Marak, who said that NPP was formed to fulfil the agenda of the RSS,
the NPP state president said “He is nothing but a liar of the highest order”.
The NPP national general secretary Thomas A Sangma, in an order had warned that no members of the party shall take part in any rally under the party’s banner, whether the rallies are in support or against CAA, without prior permission from the national president Conrad Sangma.
The NPP also wanted the members not to speak anything on CAA and restricted them from filing any case in the court.
