SHILLONG: NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) along with Research Scholars’ Forum, NEHU organised a protest at NEHU campus on Wednesday to condemn the violence that took place at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi with speakers focusing on right to freedom of expression.

It may be mentioned that trouble brewed in JNU between the students and the administration when the university hiked the hostel fees. However, events took a violent turn when masked miscreants entered and attacked students and teachers.

NEHUSU president Yshua Lyngdoh termed the JNU incident is a dastardly act and the students’ community in NEHU will stand together against the act of violence which he termed as cowardice and goondaism mindset.

Speaking in support of JNUSU president, Aishe Ghosh who was attacked by masked miscreants, he said, “We want our voices to be heard and reach out to the JNU students and teachers who were attacked. We do want our voices to be silenced. NEHU is against miscreants especially inside academic spaces which is a free thinking space”.
