Census of India will commence with houselisting operations
Shillong: A joint review meeting for Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh on preparatory works for Census of India, 2021 and updating of National Population Register (NPR), 2020 was convened on Wednesday at Raitong Conference Hall, Shillong under the chairmanship of Dr. Joram Beda, IAS, Director of Census Operations, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.
Census along with NPR is the largest administrative exercise in the world and its success depends on the wholehearted cooperation of the public.
Awareness measures such as print and electronic media and social media is thus vital for building cooperation, to ensure that everyone is covered in the exercise. Progress of work on various circulars issued by the Registrar General & Census Commissioner, India were discussed in the meeting. The Census of India will commence with houselisting operations along with the updation of National Population Register in 2020. It will be followed by population enumeration in 2021.
Administrative units for the state has been frozen and the state government is appointing various census functionaries for conducting the Census and updation of NPR. Trainings of master trainers was completed at ATI, Guwahati.
While training for field trainers, supervisors and enumerators will commence shortly.
Others who attended the meeting include Bharati Chanda, Dy. Registrar General (Assam, Meghalaya & Arunachal Pradesh), S. Lingsamy, Jt. Director (Meghalaya), B. Sohtun, Jt. Director (Arunachal Pradesh) along with other officers of both the Directorates.
