SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has petitioned Chief Minister Conrad Sangma objecting the appointment of MS Rao as the Chief Secretary of Meghalaya.
The organisation stated that the government should revoke Rao’s appointment and appoint Hector Marwein, who is a senior most serving IAS officer in the state.
The HYC stated that the appointment is totally unprecedented and uncalled for whereas the senior officer is being overlooked and sidelined.
The appointment will create an unhealthy trend in the future appointments of the state, they added.
They objected to the appointment pointing out that the government preferred a non-local to a local officer who is more competent and experienced when it comes to seniority.
They went on to add that the appointment of non-indigenous junior officer instead of a senior indigenous officer is an insult and a slap in the face of all those indigenous persons serving in the government.
The organisation has also threatened to protest for the ‘insult and arbitrary’ action of the government.
