KSU asks govt on status of Harijan Colony

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students Union on Friday asked the state government to come clean on the status of relocating the people from Harijan Colony.
KSU general secretary, Donald V Thabah said that it has been more than two years and the government is still unable to resettle the government staff and to evict illegal settlers staying in the colony. Stating that they have been waiting for a long time for the outcome of the HLC recommendations, Thabah said the government should come clean on what are the proposals regarding the high level committee on Harijan Colony.
The state government had constituted the High Level Committee headed by the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to look into the demand of relocating the residents of Harijan Colony and to submit their recommendations to the state government in 2018.
Informing that the KSU general council meeting will be held on January 11, Thabah said that issues of ILP, CAA and the progress made by the HLC on Harijan Colony will also be discussed’’.
