Three militants killed in encounter with security forces in Pulwama
Srinagar: Three militants were killed in an encounter security forces in Tral in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday, police said. Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Gulshanpora area of Tral in the south Kashmir district Sunday morning after receiving specific intelligence about the presence of militants there, a police official said. He said as the forces were conducting searches, the militants fired at them, triggering an encounter. (PTI)
Plaint against BJP leader over book comparing PM to King Shivaji
Nagpur: A Maharashtra Congress spokesperson on Sunday lodged a complaint with Nagpur Police against Delhi BJP leader Jay Bhagwan Goyal for allegedly hurting the sentiments of people by comparing Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his book. Goyal’s book is titled “Aaj ke Shivaji- Narendra Modi”. In the complaint filed by Congress spokesman Atul Londhe, he said by comparing Modi to Shivaji Maharaj the writer has insulted the warrior king. “Delhi BJP leader Jay Bhagwan Goyal has penned the book titled “Aaj ke Shivaji- Narendra Modi”. He unveiled the book at BJP office and also tweeted about it,” he said. “The book compares PM Narendra Modi to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who is adored by crores of people. Comparing Modi or anyone else to Shivaji Maharaj hurts our feelings,” Londhe said. (PTI)
Criminals fearless in UP: Priyanka
New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday expressed dismay at the incident in which a manager of a private firm was murdered after being robbed in Noida on January 7, and said that criminals are fearless in Uttar Pradesh. “Gaurav Chandel, who worked as a manager, was murdered by criminals in Noida. The government’s approach till now is lackadaisical in the murder which was committed after looting the victim. If criminals are so fearless in Noida, it’s not hard to imagine what must be the conditions elsewhere in Uttar Pradesh,” tweeted Priyanka Gandhi. Gaurav Chandel, a resident of Greater Noida, was murdered on January 7 after being robbed by some unidentified persons while he was returning home. His body was found on Tuesday morning near Sector-123 at his home. The victim worked at a private firm in Gurugram. SP Ankur Aggarwal, had said, “The victim was a resident of Gaur City Four teams have been formed and the police are going through the available CCTV footage.” (ANI)
2 men killed as car falls into gorge
New Tehri (Uttarakhand): Two persons were killed and three others injured when the car they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Tehri Garhwal district, police said on Sunday. The mishap occurred on Saturday evening on Dhatti-Ghandiyaldhar Road in Kirtinagar block killing two persons on the spot, Kirtinagar Sub Divisional Magistrate Raja Abbas said. The deceased were identified as 26-year-old Vikas Singh Rawat and 30-year-old Trilok Singh, both residents of Rudraprayag district. The three injured persons were admitted to a hospital in Shrinagar in the district. (PTI)
Official, JE booked over cow’s death
Muzaffarnagar (UP): The executive officer of the Muzaffarnagar nagar palika and a junior engineer of Bhokarhedi nagar panchayat here have been booked for negligence of duty after a cow died at a newly constructed shelter allegedly due to cold, officials said on Sunday. The Executive Officer, V M Tripathi, and the JE, Moolchand, were booked after the cow was found dead at the state government-run shelter on Saturday, the officials said. The case was registered at New Mandi Police Station under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act, they said. (PTI)
