SHILLONG: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has strongly condemned the misinterpretation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) by former ANVC (B) militant Bernard N Marak, who had said that the Sixth Schedule is more important than the permit system.
The GSMC said that such irresponsible comments should not be made without proper knowledge of various provisions of the ILP.
“If only one person, who claims himself of being a tribal, denies the importance of ILP, then such reckless comment is strongly condemnable by one and all,” the committee said in a statement issued here.
The GSMC further said that Bernard should know that unlike the Inner Line Permit, the provision of the Sixth Schedule do not include the entry-exit points in the tribal areas for the non-indigenous coming from other states.
The committee claimed that even under the Sixth Schedule areas, the implementation of ILP is necessary to check the illegal migrants in the entry-exit points as it is empowered to detect the illegal immigrants in grass-roots level and limit their period of stay in the tribal areas as and when they are required for particular job or service by the employer of entrepreneur.
“With this backdrop, the irresponsible denial of ILP under tribal area is a great blunder one should not utter,” the committee had added.
