TURA: A labourer working for a private construction firm who was abducted by a criminal gang from a road project at Masighat in South Garo Hills has reportedly been released after the family paid ransom.

Labourer Saidul Islam was kidnapped from the firm’s labour camp a week ago and despite search attempts police were unable to trace him.

It is reported that the victim was released early this week after the family allegedly paid ransom to the criminal gang. He hails from Mankachar in Assam.
Meanwhile, police from South Garo Hills have arrested two persons who they claim, are part of the gang involved in the kidnapping. The duo were taken into custody from Gittingbibra village of the district.
