USTM celebrates 71st Republic Day

GUWAHATI: As the nation celebrated its 71st Republic Day to remember when India’s Constitution came into force, the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) too celebrated the day with participation of students, faculties and administrative staff on January 26.

The tricolor was unfurled at 8.30 in the morning by the Chancellor of the university, Mahbubul Hoque in the presence of Dr PK Goswami, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Suhail Sabir, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dr R K Sharma, Advisor to USTM, apart from others.

“Students should work towards nation building and should take progress of the country as their foremost priority”, said Hoque while addressing the gathering. He advised the students to do constructive work for the nation and humanity, apart from their regular studies. Dr P K Goswami, Prof. Suhail Sabir, Dr R K Sharma also addressed the gathering with patriotic speeches.

On the occasion cleanliness drive was conducted in the campus where faculties, students and staff actively took part. Various sports activities were organised during the day for promotion of harmony and brotherhood. Sports and games like Cricket match, Football match, Blind hit (Tekeli bhanga/Haari bhanga) game, Tug-of-War, Musical Chair, Marble spoon race, Cock-fight competitions were held soon after the flag hoisting ceremony at the Amenity Centre of the university. Attractive Prizes were given on the spot to the winners.
