Larger than 90 bags Meg Icon VIII
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya AIDS Control Society conducted the Meghalaya Icon VIII or Rock the Ribbon Superstar – Meghalaya Icon – Unplugged Competition on Friday last, in which Larger than 90 was adjudged Meghalaya Icon VIII winner, followed by Plus One who bagged second place and Arcadia became third place winners, while Preacher’s Sons from Tura won the Best HIV theme song. Chief guest A War, Director of Health Services (MI) and president of MACS, Shillong gave away the prizes to the bands. According to the rule of the competition, the winner of the Meghalaya Icon VIII will have to sign an MOU with MACS, whereby the office will use the face and the services of the icon in all its IEC campaign for a period of 1 year or until the next icon is crowned. The stand alone event of the multimedia campaign undertaken by MACS and supported by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), is one of the strategies to further strengthen awareness campaign on HIV and AIDS among the people of the state, in particular the youth, using music as a platform.

MPYC to launch campaign for NRU
SHILLONG: In pursuance of the campaign launched by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) to highlight the growing unemployment crisis in the country by demanding a National Register of Unemployed (NRU), the Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) will launch their campaign for the same in Congress Bhawan here. The IYC launched the campaign at All India Congress Committee office (AICC) on January 23. The IYC aims to address the problem of unemployment in India and to give a voice to the plight of young Indians. The demand for a NRU is a response to the deplorable state of unemployment in India, which has reached at its highest level in 45 years. Starting from January 23, unemployed citizens can support the demand for a NRU, by giving a missed call on a toll-free number 8151994411.

Drawing Competition
SHILLONG: FSP Shillong in collaboration with Botanical Survey of India, Eastern Region celebrated National Volunteering Week 2020 by holding a drawing and painting competition recently. The competition, which was held at Campus of Botanical Garden in Umiam, was attended by 50 Bal Panchayat members from Mynsain/Pynthor including youth boys from SOS Arunodaya.

Adventure sports camp in JH
SHILLONG: The State Level Adventure Training Camp 2020 was inaugurated by J Treilang Suchiang, member of JHADC, who was also the chief guest on the occasion, in the presence of D Rapsang, District Youth Coordinator of Jaintia Hills, at Shangpung on Monday. The camp is being organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Jowai, in collaboration with Arcadian Nature-Sports Guild (ANG), Shangpung. The seven-day camp aims to inculcate the spirit of adventure, discipline and fraternity among the youth. As many as 25 individuals including 10 girls from around the state will be trained by qualified instructors from ANG in various adventure sports like rock climbing, rappelling, river crossing, flying fox, jummaring, basic leadership programme, a seven-hour day and a three-hour night trekking among others at the camp.
