SHILLONG: The general secretary of the Achik Youth Council (AYC), Maxbirth G Momin, in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of South West Garo Hills (SWGH), Ram Kumar S, has demanded a high-level magisterial inquiry into the poor construction of Demdemakona Model School under Zikzak Block, SWGH.
In order to provide better infrastructural facilities in education sector in Meghalaya, particularly in Garo Hills region, the Centre has sanctioned crore of rupees to build Demdemakona Model School.
Momin said that during physical inspection of the building, it was found that the building was not in first-rated condition and the contractor had used inferior material for the project. The floors were becoming faded, the land underneath seemed unstable and the cement felt corroding, he added.
He further alleged said that the building has developed cracks all over and from safety perspective, it has become a matter of concern.
“This is, indeed, unfortunate and dangerous for the students. The crew has finished the project and left the building in useless condition. Despite crores of public money being used, the students of Zikzak area are not getting the benefit from the project. It is complete slackness of the department concerned,” the general secretary said.
Momin has asked the DC to initiate inquiries within three weeks and book the culprit as per the law.
