UDP, NPP members join party
Mawkyrwat: Ahead of the Langrin council bypoll, the Congress on Thursday received a major boost when the working president of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Ranikor Constituency, Mighter Marwein along with his followers as well as leaders of the NPP from various primary units under Ranikor Block joined the Congress.
Marwein and his followers as well as the leaders of NPP were welcomed and confirmed as members of the Indian National Congress by the president of the Ranikor Block Congress Committee, P.K. Nongmin at a function held at the residence of Mawkyrwat MDC, Carness Sohshang at Mawkyrwat.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Nongmin informed that around 13 leaders and members of the UDP led by Marwein joined the Congress. “More leaders and members of the UDP will join the party soon because today there were no vehicles and therefore they came in a small number,” he said.
The Ranikor Block president also informed that there are around 50 members and leaders of primary units of NPP from Phlangdiloin, War San Lyngdoh and border area who also joined the Congress on Thursday. He also claimed that more NPP leaders and supporters will join Congress in the coming days.
Nongmin also informed that so far only one person has applied for the ticket for the by-election, that is, Jotin Khardewsaw a former vice-president of NPP Ranikor Block.
He also said that soon the RBCC will forward the name of Khardewsaw to the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee.
