SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) recently filed a petition before the Meghalaya High Court against the Central and the state government over the non-receipt of SSA teachers’ arrear of salary for 8 months with effect from July 1, 2016 to February 28, 2017 of financial year 2016-17.
In the petition, it was mentioned that the salary of the teachers under SSA in Meghalaya was fixed and enhanced by the State Mission Director SEMAM-SSA and Commissioner and Secretary Education Department by the order issued on October 31, 2016.
The petition also stated that the state government failed to release the arrear to SSA teachers even after series of representations sent by the teachers to all the concerned departments and the ministers as well as Meghalaya Chief Minister with a prayer for releasing the arrear of the SSA teachers.
It was also mentioned that the members of the association had issued a legal notice to the state government on February 20, 2019 in this regard demanding immediate release of arrear of financial year 2016-17 and the education department admitted the claim of the members of the association.
The non-release of arrear to SSA teachers by the state government has deprived the teachers their constitutional and fundamental rights guaranteed under Article 14, 16, and 21 as well as other legal rights.
