SHILLONG: The Chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the CSWO have demanded immediate arrest of the four men who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl on the night of January 29.
The chairperson, Meena Kharkongor , on Friday informed that she has personally met the DGP, R Chandranathan, and asked for immediate registration of the case since it is a sensitive issue.
The four accused had allegedly dragged the girl inside their vehicle from one of the petrol pumps in the city. She was allegedly raped and strangled. The accused had also cut her with blade and then threw her at Madanrting Bazar where the police found her.
Kharkongor said that she has instructed the Child Welfare Committee of East Khasi Hills to provide all necessary support to the victim adding that she has also told the CWC to send some counselor to talk to the minor.
“Women are not protected and having no CCTVs in main junctions, criminals get away with it,” CSWO President Agnes Kharshiing said.
The CSWO has also urged the authorities to find the culprits immediately and provide CCTVs in main junctions.
The government should also provide immediate interim compensation to the victim to help the family as the family had to buy medicines from outside as these were not available in the government hospital where the girl is treated.
