Children take part in cleaning drive at Mawryngkang

SHILLONG: UDP vice president Allantry Franklin Dkhar with the support from Emmingstone Khongngai, member of the Executive Committee Dorbar Shnong Mawryngkang, Maxil Khongsit, Assistant Rangbah Shnong, along with 16 children, carried out an awareness programme on the ill effects of plastic at Mawryngkang Community Hall.
This was followed by a cleaning drive from Mawryngkang Community Hall to the areca nut plantation of Eltimai Ryndong at Mawsiat.
Lunch was provided by the UDP leader followed by segregation of plastic from the waste collection. Ice cream for the children was provided by Evahunlin Ryndong.
Later in the evening, jerseys and shorts were given by Emmingstone and Maxil to the children, followed by distribution of sweets by Dkhar.
Jwatbor Khongmalai, Secretary of Dorbar Shnong Mawryngkang, has urged like-minded people to conduct similar programmes across the state, in order to make Chief Minister’s initiative for a plastic free Meghalaya a success.
