SHILLONG: For the next 14 days, the Indian Army and Bangladeshi Army would exchange ideas in the counter-terrorism training in Shillong as the 14-day Indo-Bangladesh joint military training exercise, Sampriti-IX, began at Umroi on Monday.
The joint training exercise was inaugurated by Brigadier R Sharma here at Umroi.
During the joint military exercise a Command Post Exercise (CPX) and a Field Training Exercise (FTX) will be conducted. In CPX and FTX, a scenario would be created in which armies of both nations would work together in a counter terrorism environment as simulated under the UN Charter.
The joint training exercise is being participated by 150 participants from the Indian and the Bangladesh armies each.They will take part in the 14-day counter-terrorism training in a mountainous and jungle terrain under the UN mandate.
Troops from the Bihar regiment from Indian Army and 42 Infantry Regiment of the Bangladesh Army would be taking part in the exercise.
The exercise would be held as part of the ongoing Indo-Bangladesh defense cooperation and Exercise Sampriti is an important bilateral defense cooperation between India and Bangladesh and will be the ninth edition of the exercise.
Apart from bilateral military training, the exercise is being conducted to understand each other at the tactical level, greater cultural understanding, to further strengthen military trust and cooperation between the two nations.
Bangladesh Army Brigadier General, S Azam said that Bangladesh Army has always benefitted by the support provided by Indian army and “a good number of participants from Bangladesh come to India to undertake training in Indian Army training establishments.”
On the other hand, contingent commander of the Indian Army, Brigadier R Sharma said “Both the nations are engaged in a process of socio-economic transformation of our people at an unprecedented pace and on a large scale,” he added.
