The federation is a joint organisation of the PwDs comprising of the Meghalaya Deaf Assocciation, Khasi Disabilities Association, Garo Hills Association of the Deaf, West Khasi Disabled People Organisation, Meghalaya Liberation Association of Visually Impaired and All Meghalaya Association of Persons with Disabilities.
The federation placed grievances faced by the PwDs in the state, and urged the government to fully implemented four per cent of the reservation policy for PwDs, i.e., one per cent for blind or low vision, one per cent for deaf and hard of hearing, one per cent for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy and one per cent for autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness as announced by the Centre through the rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The federation requested the government to appoint one member in the MPSC and in all the 11 DSCs to look after the job appointment for Pwds. The federation further requested the government to make the identification of post for PwDs before sending the advertisement to the MPSC and DSCs.
“There are atleast 16 persons with disabilities who are working as muster roll and also on a contractual basis in different government department. Therefore, we request the government to appoint them through the Direct Recruitment Drive for the permanent post,” the federation stated.
The federation has requested the government to take the initiative to insist the private sectors in the state to consider the appointment of the disabled persons in their respective fields.
