2,927 people diagnosed with Tuberculosis in Mizoram in 2019
AIZAWL: More than 2,900 people have been diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB) in Mizoram in 2019, a Health department official said on Sunday. The official said that as many as 17,171 blood samples were tested out of which 2,927 were found suffering from tuberculosis. Ninety three per cent of the patients have been successfully treated, he said. Of the 2,927 cases, 38 were detected in private hospitals, while 12 people were diagnosed during a drive conducted by the Health department in jails and several rehabilitation centres, he added. At least 109 people were also diagnosed with multi- drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) during the same period. In 2018, of the 4,115 blood samples that have been tested, 2,499 people were diagnosed with TB and out of this 92 per cent were successfully cured, the official added. (PTI)
Tripura man assaulted for derogatory comment on scripture
AMBASSA: A self-styled rationalist techie was assaulted for making derogatory comments on the Gita and against Hindus in his Facebook page in the bordering subdivision of Kamalpur in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai here on Sunday. The rationalist-cum-junior engineer of the urban body of Kamalpur identified as Dulal Ghosh continued his comments against the Hindus and their religious scriptures for a considerable period. Several times he was requested and advised not to make such comments hitting the sentiments of a religious community. On Saturday, he termed the Gita as bluff. This comment enraged the local youths and even BJP Kamalpur mandal president Shyamal Paul lodged a police complaint against him. On Sunday morning some enraged youths reached his house and assaulted him. In the afternoon, Viswa Hindu Paisad (VHP) activists took out a protest rally against his comments. Many speculated Leftist political blueprint behind the continuous derogatory remarks of him and his aides. (UNI)
Manipur CM conferred with ‘Saviour of Youths’ title
Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has been conferred the title ‘Saviour of Youths’ by the Holistic Vista SUD Treatment Centre for his ‘War against Drugs’ campaign. The chief minister was felicitated by the chief functionary of Holistic Vista SUD Treatment Centre Lalit Sapam and senior counsellor Anil Khuraijam in a function held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Sunday. Singh thanked the Holistic Vista SUD Treatment Centre, Ningthemcha Karong for honouring and encouraging him and the State government towards striving for a society free from drug menace. The chief minister appealed the people to support the initiative of the government on ‘War against Drugs’ in the state. He informed that illegal drugs amounting to more than Rs 2000 crore have been confiscated so far and around 100 persons have been jailed for their involvement in illegal drug activities in the state.
