SHILLONG: Two persons, including a teenager, of Pyrkan village in Shella were assaulted by five suspected Bangladeshis near Shella river on Sunday afternoon.
The two were identified as 19-year-old Denglang Diengdoh and 21-year-old Harikanto Sargari.
Diengdoh was grievously injured suffering sharp cut wounds on his back and on his head while Sargari suffered minor injuries.
Diengdoh was shifted to Civil Hospital here for better treatment. Diengdoh’s brother, Borchis Diengdoh, told reporters here that Denglang and Sargari were having a picnic.
“When they went up to the roadside, they came across five suspected Bangladeshis who attacked them with sharp weapons. In the melee, Hari (Sargari) received injury on his legs, but he managed to flee to another place where he met people and asked them for help. On seeing the people coming, the attackers fled to a nearby forest”, Borchis said.
Pyrkan village is about three kms away from the Indo-Bangladesh border.
It may be mentioned that there have been attacks by suspected Bangladeshis inside the state earlier, too.
In one such attack, a Border Security Force personnel and a civilian were injured at Amdoh village near Rongkum along the Indo-Bangla border.
Miscreants from across the border had also attacked five local residents along the Dawki-Nongtalang road.
