TURA: A seven-year-old girl child was reportedly raped by a man from the same village under Nangalbibra police station last month and the victim’s family on coming to know of the sexual assault, this month, filed a police complaint.
According to the FIR lodged by the victim’s family, the accused identified as Newton Sangma from the same village as the victim had been sexually assaulting the young girl on numerous occasions.
After the family came to know of the crime they immediately approached the police and filed a complaint.
A minor girl was allegedly kidnapped from her resident at Joyfar in South West Garo Hills on January 4.
In a statement, the Hajong Students’ Union (HSU) has condemned the police for not being able to rescue the minor girl.
“The FIR was filled on January 7 by the family of the victim. The kidnapper has also been identified as Mintu Ali from Chandamari, Mankachar. It has been more than a month but the police are still unable to catch the kidnapper and rescue the girl child,” the students’ body said.
The HSU Central body leaders met the family of the victim and enquired about the progress of the case from the IO, OC and also met the SP of South West Garo Hills. “The police officials had given assurances to us but their words seemed to be mere lip service.
The sheer fact that the kidnapper has been identified and the police is still unable to capture him shows the inability and inaction of the department,” the HSU said.
The union said that they have received complaints of several such cases of abduction and forceful marriages and conversation have been taking place in the plain belts of Garo Hills which goes unregistered.
“The courage to commit such heinous crimes can only come when there is no fear of law and order,” the HSU said.
The union further said that they will not be a mute spectator to this atrocities committed against their sisters. “The HSU will go to any extend to protect the life and dignity of our sisters.”
