Govt seeks public feedback on survey
SHILLONG: The state government has urged the people of Shillong to give their feedback in the Ease of Living Perception survey, 2020. Talking to media persons, Urban Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling said that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is conducting the survey from February 1 to February 29 and the objective is to get feedbacks from the residents of the city about the programmes, which residents here want to be taken up by the government. “People can give their suggestions by logging onto www.eol2019.org,’’ the statement from the government said.
Final publication of electoral roll
TURA: The Sub-Divisional Officer (Election), Dadenggre, has informed that the final publication of the electoral roll for 43-Dadenggre (ST), 45-Tikrikilla (ST) and 44-Raksamgre (ST) Assembly Constituencies have been prepared with reference to January 1, 2020 as the qualifying date in accordance with the Registration of Electors’ Rules, 1960. The notification, which was issued, added that copies of the said roll, together with the said lists of additions, have been published and would be available for inspection at the office.
KSU prez for another term
SHILLONG: Lambokstarwell Marngar and Donald Thabah are all set to continue as president and general secretary of Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) respectively. In a statement issued here, the election committee of the KSU in charge of the 14th general election for the term 2020-2023 informed that the post of president, vice-president and general secretary were uncontested. The post of vice-president went to Biangbor Lyngdoh Paliar. The election will be held on February 22 at Community Hall, Jaiaw Shyiap-Lumpyllon, Shillong. The election committee has scrutinised the nomination papers of candidates for the posts of assistant general secretary, organising secretary, education secretary, publicity secretary, office secretary.
Moon festival concludes in city
SHILLONG: The three-day full moon festival of Maghi Purnima concluded at Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS) – a worldwide philanthropic organisation – in Jail Road on Monday with Maha Ashirbad and Phool Dol. On Monday, obeisance by devotees was performed, which was followed by seeking of Maha Ashirbad. Hundreds of faithful thronged the BSS Ashram to seek blessings. In the evening, BSS founder Swami Pranabananda Maharaj was worshipped in a swing called Phool Dol amidst ritualistic dancing by devotees. Earlier, the festival commenced on Saturday with Yagna, a ritual sacrifice, for worldwide peace and prosperity. On Sunday, devotees bathed the idol of Swami Pranabananda Maharaj. This was followed by an offering, Onnokut Bhog, made of more than 108 edible items prepared by devotees. This bhog was later distributed among devotees.
23 arrested by Excise Dept in 2019
TURA: West Garo Hills (WGH) Deputy Commissioner (Excise) informed that the excise department, during raids conducted in the district, has arrested 23 persons including five unclaimed cases under Section 53 (a) of the ME Act during the months of November and December last year. A total of 28 cases were detected with seizure amounting to approximately 20.85 litres of Indian-made foreign liquor, 54 litres of beer and 18.25 litres of illicit distilled liquor. In this connection, 28 pre-litigation cases were settled on National Lok Adalat held on December 14 and 6 cases were disposed off with fine amounting to Rs 8,000, a release issued here added.
