SHILLONG: The supporter of the petitioner on coal racket, Abdul Ahad Choudhury, has slammed Hynniewtrep A’chik National Movement (HANM) for dictating terms to Lokayukta which is a judicial body, either to proceed with the case or close it.
In response to the report regarding the demand of HANM to close the Lokayukta case against the officials, Choudhury said Lokayukta is an independent constitutional authority and has got the mandate to probe the allegation of corruption leveled against a government functionary after providing a fair opportunity to the person/ persons accused, irrespective of the fact as to who is the person complaining to the Lokayukta.
Choudhury from Sutarkandi, Karimganj is supporting the petitioner, Abhijit Basumatary who had filed the case on coal racket before the Lokayukta.
“It is the contempt of the authority of the Lokayukta to publicly bring an allegation against the functioning of the authority by expressing suspicion over its conduct and alleging, both before and after filing the complaint (they) finalised the deal”, he said.
According to Choudhury, the allegations brought against him are all false and an imagination of perverted mind.
“It would have been better for all concerned if the organisation had undertaken a homework before making wild allegations against me and had they read the complaint of the ‘Assamese Bodo person’ (Basumatary) they would have understood that it is an independent complaint against corruption and harassment meted out to him and he has nothing to do with Abdul Ahad Choudhury”, he said.
Choudhury also said allegations against him of having many criminal cases are mere hearsay as vested interests had filed as many as 29 criminal cases against him from 2005 to 2016 in which many cases ended in FR (final report) that means that the inquiry by the police did not find any material to proceed against him and the rest of the cases resulted in either acquittal or they were quashed by the courts.
“The organisation appears to have made a defamatory statement at the behest of vested interests that are out to malign and defame me and Basumatary. There is no question of using Basumatary as a puppet as has been alleged in the statement. The organisation, by bringing unfounded allegations against me, could not stop themselves to please their masters and in the process they have crossed their limits by making defamatory statement against the Lokayukta and thus committed offence of disturbing and interrupting public justice system”, Choudhury said.
