SHILLONG: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Siju Unit, has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma into infrastructure-related issues in Siju area.
In a letter to the chief minister, the GSU said that the road connectivity from Siju Bazaar to Tolegre area is in a “deplorable” condition, and has been neglected for many years.
“This poor condition of the road has been causing a lot of problem to the commuters and businessmen,” the students’ union lamented.
The GSU has also necessitated the setting up of a separate C&RD Block in Siju, as “Siju is under the jurisdiction of Baghmara C&RD Block”.
The students’ union also lamented the lack of medical infrastructure and facilities at the already present Public Health Centre in the area.
“The medicines are not available all the time. As a result, the general public has to purchase it from private pharmacies,” the GSU said.
“The people residing in mission compound are also facing problems due to poor sub-road connectivity to the health centre, especially during urgent medical attention. To avoid such difficulties in emergencies, blacktopping of said road is necessary,” the students’ union added.
