‘Govt committed to eliminate infant & maternal mortality’

SHILLONG: The Director of Health Services, Government of Meghalaya, LM Pdah said that the government is committed to eliminate infant mortality and maternal mortality from the country. Speaking as the chief guest of the workshop of on ‘Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 2.0’, which was organised by the Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday, Pdah mentioned that the target of IMI 2.0 is to achieve 90 per cent immunisation coverage.
He informed that the IMI 2.0 will be done in 4 rounds and 3 rounds have been completed in the state so far. He said that the 4th round will be completed by March.
Engam Pame, Director, ROB, Shillong, in his address, said that the objective of the workshop is to educate and equip the field officers regarding various aspects of ‘IMI 2.0’.
Resource person N Roy, Surveillance Medical Officer, WHO, Shillong, informed that 26 per cent of the children are not vaccinated due to fear of Adverse Event Following Immunisation.
L Somerndra Singh, Additional Director, Health and Family Welfare, who was also the guest of honour, highlighted that lack of knowledge and misconceptions about vaccination is a serious issue in some areas and through proper communication this issue can be addressed successfully.
