Union minister distributes free aids to senior citizens in WKH

NONGSTOIN: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gurjar distributed free-of-cost aids during the Mega Distribution Camp at Nongpyndeng, West Khasi Hills, an initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help poor and needy senior citizens suffering from age related disability.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, Gurjar informed that the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana is the scheme funded by the Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment and the aids are manufactured by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India.
As many as 2506 devices were distributed to senior citizens belonging to the BPL category.
The assistive living devices like wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles, dentures, walking sticks and others, were distributed according to the needs of the people.
Kyrmen Shylla, Social Welfare Minister attended the camp as the guest of honour.
The union minister also handed over Rs 5000 as a token of appreciation to the children residing in children’s home orphanage of Nongstoin who performed the welcome song.
