TURA: The sudden transfer of a police official from the Civil Sub-Division has irked the GSU, Western Zone North, Dadenggre.
According to the union, Sub Inspector (SI) Robert M Sangma, who took charge as the Officer in Charge (OC) of Dadenggre Police Station on January 30 this year, was suddenly transferred after three days on February 3.
“We condemn this step by the government to transfer an officer at their fancy. An officer should be given time to serve the public after taking charge. This is not the first time such things have happened in Dadenggre,” the union said.
The union recalled that another officer, Ramakrishna Chitturi, IAS, who was serving the public as SDO Civil Dadenggre was some time back also transferred only after serving for 7-8 months and questioned what is really happening in Dadenggre.
“Is the government trying to turn Dadenggre into a playground for their own interests? When a former SDSEO was recently alleged of many irregularities in the department the public was of the opinion that she should be transferred from Dadenggre. But the government instead turned a deaf ear then,” it said adding the people’s voice against corruption was being suppressed while good officers were being transferred.
The union said that Dadenggre police station has been functioning with only one SI since the last few years which poses a problem to the people when the officer goes on leave. According to the union, as many as three police officers have been transferred from the police station during the past year leaving the people with no one to turn to when they are needed.
“We oppose this move of the government. We demand that SI Robert M Sangma is brought back to Dadenggre. We will not turn a mute spectator in this issue and take necessary steps in the coming days to make our voices heard,” GSU vice president, Tengsan M Marak said.
