SHILLONG: Several fishes and birds have been found dead in the famous Wards Lake raising questions as to what caused their death.
Moreover, several pictures of dead fishes in Wards Lake and bats getting electrocuted in power lines passing over the lake are also going viral.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF, YS Shullai said that there have been instances in the past where bats and birds often get electrocuted not only inside the Wards Lake but in other parts of the city as well.
“Such accidents do take place,” he said.
With regard to death of fishes, he said that the lake is managed by the Fishery department while the Forest department looks only after the gardens and lawns.
Shullai also asserted that the pond is not polluted.
“It could be the handiwork of some mischief mongers as many times they keep on putting things inside the pond,” Shullai alleged.
