SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union New Delhi Chapter met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in New Delhi on Wednesday and proposed suggestions to deal with issues confronting the state to which the chief minister responded positively.
The Delhi unit has addressed the government on the recent trafficking incident and suggested to take long term measures to curb the trafficking of girls from the state.
The union has called for a speedy implementation of the Marriage Act initiated by the Maitshaphrang Movement Convener, Micheal Syiem, as the divorce case in Meghalaya
is on the rise which is a contributing factor to the rise of trafficking.
The students’ body has urged the chief minister to reach out to the unorganised sector and vulnerable sections so that the women workforce can come under the formal sector.
Sangma has also expressed concern regarding the issue and assured the union that women empowerment will be given more importance in the next budget session.
On the NEIGRIHMS issue, the union reminded the chief minister on the previous demand by the Central body to appoint a new Director for NEIGHRIMS.
As a follow up on Inner Line Permit (ILP), the union said that the Delhi Union is looking forward to a positive result.
