EKH village gets water harvesting system

SHILLONG: A water harvesting site was inaugurated in East Khasi Hills village on Friday with an objective to solve water scarcity issue.
Amidst complaints of water scarcity in the state, the VEC of Nonglum under Mawlynrei Village, Mawryngkneng C&RD Block decided to set up the water harvesting site which has been built upon a natural spring source.
The project built with over Rs 24 lakh was inaugurated by the BDO of Mawryngkneng Block, Ronnie Wahlang in the presence of officials from the Dorbar Shnong, VEC members and the job card holders. The maximum number of job card holders is women.
The BDO, while lauding the vision of the VEC members, urged the villagers to use water judiciously and to make all efforts to protect the catchment area.
The programme witnessed participation of the job card holders who presented songs and dances to celebrate the inauguration of the project. The programme concluded with a picnic of all the members of the village.
