SHILLONG: The DG of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, honoured international athlete and Padma Shree-cum-Arjuna Awardee Dipa Karmakar along with other budding sportspersons and coaches of Tripura at a special ceremony in the presence of IGAR (E), Maj Gen GAV Reddy and DIG of Tripura Sect, Brig AK Sharma.
The general officer complimented these players for motivating the youths in adopting sport as “a way of life”. He assured the players of Assam Rifles’ commitment towards promoting the ‘proven as well as the promising talent’ in sports in the North East and also apprised them of the Assam Rifles Public Shillong being recognised by the Government of India as a sports school in the lines of Sports School Rai (Sonepat) in Haryana. The school will promote sports and will get funds under the Khelo India scheme.
