SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has deferred the hearing on the petition against imposition of administrator’s rule in KHADC to March 12.
The former KHADC CEM, Latiplang Kharkongor, had filed the petition against the Governor’s Secretariat for imposing administrator’s rule.
During the hearing of the matter on Wednesday, a plea for adjournment was made on behalf of the counsel for the petitioner who was not present in the court due to personal difficulty.
The government also sought time for filing affidavit to counter the writ petition. In view of the circumstances, the court granted one-week time for filing of the affidavit with advance copy to the counsel for the petitioner.
Earlier, the MDCs of United Democratic Party (UDP) have elected MDC from Sohra Titosstarwell Chyne as the new Parliamentary Party (PP) Leader in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
The MDCs of UDP comprising former KHADC CEM Teinwell Dkhar, Jambor War, Ryngkat Lyndem and Bindo Lanong on February 17, in a letter to party president Metbah Lyngdoh and general secretary Jemino Mawthoh, stated that they have unanimously elected Chyne as the new PP leader.
Earlier, Dkhar was the parliamentary party leader in the KHADC.
UDP MDCs Paul Lyngdoh and Teibor Pathaw were not signatories to support Chyne.
However, sources informed that Pathaw, the MDC from Mawlai, may come back to the party as UDP leaders are making efforts to iron out the differences that emerged recently.
Both Lyngdoh and Pathaw had extended support to UDF and left the UDP-led UDA.
