NONGPOH: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem along with officials from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Chairman of Nongpoh Town Committee, CB Syiem and officials from Ri Bhoi district administration conducted an inspection on the issue of drainage system at Nongpoh area along the stretches of National Highway-6 on Thursday.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Mayralborn said that over Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned by the NHAI for widening of drainage system, foot-over-bridge and police booth in Nongpoh areas and the inspection was conducted with an aim to make sure that the project should be complete as per the time frame.
He said that the issue has been pending for years now and the people of the area and commuters will again face the same problem if proper action is not taken by the NHAI.
Syiem urged the cooperation of village leaders and the people at large for smooth progress of the project.
It may be mentioned that the flash floods during rainy season is one of the major concerns for the people of the area due the poor and narrow drainage system constructed on both sides of the service road of the NH-6.
