Demand for timely curfew announcement

SHILLONG: The chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, John F Kharshiing, has requested the government for timely announce of curfew through mobile sms and other means of communication.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Kharshiing said due to the internet shutdown, the Federation of Khasi States has been receiving anxious phone calls from parents wanting to know the curfew timings due to the ongoing school exams.
He suggested the use of mobile bulk sms’ along with coordinated announcement through local electronic media at a particular predetermined time especially Shillong Doordarshan, which has a wide coverage for publicity, will greatly help in the timely announcement of vital information.
Kharshiing also said the federation condemned all those involved in the violence and urge the government to punish those who have taken the law into their own hands and to restore law and order in the state.
