SHILLONG: The Achik Holistic National Awakening Movement (AHNAM), in a memorandum to Chief Minster Conrad Sangma, has urged him to facilitate upscaling the capacity of the indoor stadium at Sunny Hills, Tura, to 5,000 people along with a gym.
While highlighting the importance of the stadium in hosting the National Games 2022, the organisation urged the chief minster to upgrade the stadium, which is under construction, to international standard.
Furthermore, the organisation have also sought from the chief minster to build a canteen and a “three to five-star” rated hostel alongside the stadium for the players.
“This facility could be used by tourists – both domestic and international – if the standards are well-maintained, as there is shortage of this facility in Tura during peak seasons,” the AHNAM said in the memorandum to the chief minister.
The organisation’s other demands included the replacement of the present fair-weather approach road to the stadium with a steel road, installation of water storage for the community of Sunny Hills to meet the shortage of water supply, an auditorium hall for Sunny Hills Area with a capacity of 7,000 people and facelift to the New Tura Playground with modern-day technology inputs.
