Meghalaya responds to COVID-19, education institutions shut from March 17

Board examinations to continue

SHILLONG:  Education institutions in Meghalaya will remain closed from March 17 to  March 31 next  as part of preventive measures to check spread of novel COVID-19 (corona virus), as per the statement made by the state’s Health and Family Welfare Minister before the state Assembly on Monday.

Considering the situation where the number of cases of corona virus infection have risen in the country, the Health and Family Welfare Department of Meghalaya has issued the following set of advisory and restrictions which comes into effect from March 17 to 31 next.

  •  All education institutions within Meghalaya are to remain closed except for holding examinations.
  • Places of mass gathering like cinema halls, malls, gymnasiums, major sports events and swimming pools etc., are to remain closed.
  • Conferences, workshops, meetings, seminars, trainings etc., which involve large gatherings are to be either postponed or cancelled.
  • All non-essential travel outside and into the are to be postponed or avoided.
  • Visiting big open and enclosed markets nd tourist places are to be avoided.
  • Social distancing and hand-hygiene to be maintained in places of work and worship.
  • Nitified fairs and festivals are to be postponed and cancelled.
  • Close contact in public transport is to be avoided.
  • Companies or offices with work from home option may permit employees to do so.
